Who We Are
Those guys that paint their chests…

Purpose
The official purpose of the Longhorn Hellraisers is to support the various University of Texas teams and create a high level of enthusiasm among the fans at these sporting events. The Longhorn Hellraisers attend all football games, pep rallies, home volleyball matches, home men’s basketball games and the majority of home women’s basketball games; we also attend key games in soccer, softball, baseball, as well as men’s and women’s tennis. The Hellraisers are devout followers of all cheers initiated by the cheerleaders, but they have also been known to come up with a few cheers of their own.
This organization is not only unique in our activities, but also unique in our appearance. The Longhorn Hellraisers can be easily spotted at the games and rallies they attend by their brightly painted orange and white faces and bodies, Texas hats, white oxford shirts and burnt orange rally towels. In addition to supporting the University of Texas athletics, the Longhorn Hellraisers are involved in helping the community through local service projects.
Founding
In the fall of 1987 Kevin Kosta Marcantel, a transfer student from Louisiana State University and Carl Yaquinto, a transfer student from Michigan State University, were both very disappointed in the level of noise and enthusiasm among the fans at the University of Texas football games. They decided something had to be done to light a fire of loudly vocalized support under the seemingly apathetic football fans. They then began to develop the concept behind the Longhorn Hellraisers.
Later, during the 1988 spring semester, Kevin and Carl incorporated the help of Art Brickey IV and Jim Spurr in founding and organizing the Longhorn Hellraisers. Kevin K. Marcantel became the first President, Carl Yaquinto became the first Executive Vice President, Jim Spurr became the first Financial Vice President, and Art Brickey IV becam the first Social Vice President. Although an official student organization in the spring of 1988, the Longhorn Hellraisers did not begin their organizational practices, nor did they recruit their first members until the fall of 1988.
The Letters
The Longhorn Hellraisers have long stood out among the average fans at Longhorn sporting events. To show even greater unconditional support for our Lognhorn teams, five priveleged members paint their bodies with “TEXAS” and two other random members paint their bodies with horns , at all football games, big volleyball matches, and important basketball games. Through 110 degree heat, 20 degree wind chills, torrential downpours, and driving snow, these Hellraisers bare it all to exhibit their dedication to the Horns. The right to participate is an honored tradition, with previous letters passing down their mark to a member of their choice upon graduation.
